Pacific Rim Wine Competition, 2002
Though we have
produced Zinfandel from this block non-commercially for 20 years,
this is our first commercial release from this vineyard. The 2000
vintage from this block provided us with a broad, generous, and what
we have come to consider “typical” Frediani Vineyard Zinfandel.
Forty-four year old, dry farmed vines generally have no problem
speaking for themselves, we simply interpret:
Purple-red color, bright strawberry fruit, firm acid, moderate
tannins, long finish. What more can WE say? O.K., we typically add
a small portion of Charbono, and maybe a splash of Petite Sirah into
the Zin from this block. And yes, 100% French oak aged, bottled
unfined and unfiltered.
We have
many past vintages from this excellent Zinfandel vineyard in our
personal cellar, and though very appealing and juicy when young, we
find them to age nicely given 5-7 years bottle age.
